The launch of Malaysia's MyNIISe QR code immigration trial at the Johor-Singapore border experienced a rocky start, with numerous travellers reporting significant technical glitches that led to widespread frustration on its first day.

The system, designed to speed up clearance for car travellers at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) checkpoints, instead became a source of delays for many who attempted to use it.

Users, a large number of whom were Singaporeans preparing for their drive trip into Malaysia, encountered a variety of problems with the MyNIISe mobile application. The most common complaint was a failure during the registration process, particularly when trying to scan passports.

Many reported the app would get stuck on a continuous loading screen. Others described the app as generally slow and unresponsive. An additional challenge was the observation that the app appeared to function properly only when connected to a Malaysian mobile network, making pre-registration from Singapore difficult.

The confusion extended to the immigration checkpoints. Some travellers who persevered and successfully managed to register and generate a QR code were met with further disappointment upon arrival.

They were reportedly informed by immigration officers that the system was not yet fully operational at the counters, compelling the travellers in question to revert to the standard practice of using their physical passports for clearance.

In response to the influx of negative feedback online, Johor state committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh publicly acknowledged the issues. He confirmed that the authorities were aware of the complaints and stated that the system's vendor had been alerted and was actively investigating the glitches to implement a solution.
