mReview: Zeekr 7X AWD Performance – The Real Deal

The Zeekr 7X is one of the most impressive vehicles on sale in Singapore today, setting the standard for premium electric cars everywhere to follow.
What’s Great
- Exceptional build quality with a really premium look and feel to the whole car.
- Ludicrously (and frankly, unnecessarily) fast in AWD Performance spec, though more reasonable options are available.
- The native Zeekr hi-fi system is one of the best in the business, speaking as someone who loves his aural pleasure.
What’s Good
- The optional electric doors are a neat feature, with the driver just having to step on the brake for the door to close automatically.
- Surprisingly low pricing for a car of this standard, equipment level, and performance.
- 800V architecture for mega-fast 420kW DC charging.
What’s Not Great
- Though the electric doors worked just fine, I couldn't actually figure out how to use the physical door handles, they just wouldn't open the doors.
- Digitally-operated air-con vents are an unnecessary and inferior solution to a problem that never existed.
- The annual road tax on the AWD Performance variant will run you many a pretty penny.
Ventilated, massaging, 14-way electrically-adjustable seats for the front row and the awesome Zeekr sound system are included as standard on the RWD Long Range and AWD Performance variants.
The 7X is a smart and modern looking vehicle, and to this writer's eyes, carries a hint of a Scandinavian air to it. Perhaps there's some idea exchanging going on in the Zeekr/Volvo/Polestar design room, all brands owned by Geely, of course.
The little button on the B and C pillars activate the electric doors. As long as there's nothing in front of them, they'll whir open as far as they go and beckon you to enter. Press the door button on the inside and they'll shut by themselves too.
The "Zeekr Stargate Integrated Smart Light Curtain" is both one of the longest and coolest sounding names for a headlight cluster in the world. But it is undeniably very cool, especially with the light show when you unlock the car.
The rear seats are electrically reclinable by up to 10° while the rear windows feature powered sunshades to shield your precious passengers from the sun. There's plenty of space and a massive glass roof for an airy feel.
This 7X is painted in Tech Grey, one of only five understated, business-y colours you can pick from. The orange contrast brake callipers are a welcome splash of colour, though.
The 7X features 616 litres of boot space with the seats up, and up to 1,978 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
The user interface of the 7X's 16-inch, 3.5K infotainment screen is clean, easy to navigate, and quick to respond. There's even a native app for TikTok so you can doomscroll on the go.
I spy a hint of RoboCop in the rear of the 7X, although I'm too young to have enough RoboCop knowledge to craft a more entertaining quip.
